About This Offering

This course will cover a variety of topics related to the construction claims process, from how to identify signs of trouble to avoiding claims and mitigating schedule delays.

Dayna Anderson, CMA, CFE

Dayna is the Practice Area Lead of Commercial Damages & Investigation at Vertex.  She is a Certified Management Accountant ("CMA") and a Certified Fraud Examiner ("CFE").  She has also earned the AICPA Core Forensic Accounting Certificate and holds a B.S. in General Engineering from the University of Illinois.  She has been admitted as expert in economic damages and forensic accounting in state and federal courts and arbitration, analyzing over 200 construction claims.  Dayna works with the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") Board of Directors with focus on the Audit and Governance Committees.  She is also a Lecturer at University of Illinois, Northwestern University, and Purdue University, among others on construction claims and accounting.

Andrew (Andy) Miltonberger, PE

Andy serves as Director at Vertex.  He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois and is a Licensed Professional Engineer.  Andy has schedule delay and economic damages experience on more than 100 construction disputes.  He has accredited presentations on schedule delay analysis and construction claims and also assists general contractors with baseline schedule development, project schedule update development, and contemporaneous reporting.

J.D. Glisson

With an extensive background in construction litigation, J.D. represents contractors, subcontractors, owners and design professionals in mediations, arbitration and trials, as well as hearings before government boards. He has handled cases involving contract default claims, bid disputes; delay, acceleration and disruption/inefficiency claims; defective workmanship claims; engineering and design error claims; and lien and bond claims. His work has included contract negotiation, construction, maintenance, dispute resolution between contractors and owners. He also advises clients on contracts and handles requests for real-time advice on issues that come up while construction is in progress as well as how to proceed with extra work to handling delays or contract termination issues.

This 1-day bootcamp will explore topics such as, how to identify signs of trouble that lead to claims, best practices for avoiding claims, how to understand the construction claims process, how to understand the different types of claims and how to quantify them, recommended practices for creating baseline schedules and updating / preserving contemporaneous schedules, types of delays (critical vs non-critical; excusable vs compensable; concurrent), types of acceleration (directed; constructed; voluntary acceleration), and identify, document, and mitigate schedule delays.
